Meeting With Mark
The 7-5 students gathered today with our studio artist Mark Vasquez-Mackay. He shared his process of creating multimedia art pieces in hopes to inspire their ACE (Art-Centered Experience) piece. These pieces will try to represent three communication styles including: passive, assertive and aggressive. This project has a cross-curricular connection to the grade 7 healthy relationships health curriculum and ties into our big connection: How do our actions impact outcomes. We are exploring how our communication styles impact the person we are talking to as well as our own outcomes.
Cultural Interview
By now, you might have heard some buzz about our cultural interview assignment that is happening in 7-3 and 7-5 Social Studies. Students are exploring the concept of culture, and what better way to embody this, then through a personal connection. Students are encouraged to interview someone in their family that can provide the most insight into the history and culture of their family (sometimes grandparents can do a great job at this!) Students will record these interviews and bring an audio recording (it can be on a phone or other digital device) to class on September 24th. The due date is technically the 23rd, but we decided on a one day grace period as a class. Students will have class time to take notes on their recordings and write up their assignment. Please look at the link under Social Studies Resources for more information.
